Vachendorf to Prien: river-valley walk with geology
A guided walk on Saturday, 8 August 2026, combines a river landscape with an introduction to Alpine geology. The group meets at Prien railway station at 11 am, takes the 11.16 am Chiemgau-Bahn to Vachendorf and then walks back along the River Prien.
Participants must buy their own one-way train ticket before departure. The journey is free with a valid Prien visitor card, according to the tourist office. The walking time is about four hours and the complete outing is scheduled until around 4 pm. A picnic stop is planned, so bring food and enough water. The current route information is published by Prien Tourism ⬈ .
River pebbles provide practical examples for explaining the structure and formation of the Alps. The published programme does not promise entry to Schloss Wildenwart; this is primarily a walking and nature-education tour along the river valley.
Wear sturdy, broken-in footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. River paths may be slippery after rain, and four hours of walking require suitable fitness. The BUND Nature Conservation programme states that the walk is cancelled in rain or snow. Check the latest status on the morning of the event and arrive early enough to buy the train ticket.
