Kneipp & Bike Inn Valley: a new 35 km circular ride

Cycling, Alpine views and a brief cooling water break come together on the new “Kneipp & Bike Inn Valley” route. Chiemsee-Alpenland Tourism launched it in June 2026 alongside four other cycle routes and one walk. The circuit begins at Brannenburg railway station, heads towards Oberaudorf and returns on quieter roads and tracks. Navigation needs to be prepared in advance because the route is not signposted.

Route figures and arrival

The official circuit is 35 kilometres long and graded moderate. Estimated riding time is two and a half hours, with 143 metres of ascent and 139 metres of descent. Its highest point is 520 metres and its lowest 456 metres. Breaks, water-treading and an optional Hocheck visit are additional. Three to four hours is therefore a more realistic allowance for an unhurried outing.

Brannenburg station is both start and finish. It can be reached by regional train RB 54. The tourism authority also lists free parking at the station. Save the official route page with map, GPX and KML downloads ⬈ on a phone before setting off. A final map check is advisable in case of a temporary closure or diversion.

From Brannenburg towards Oberaudorf

The first section follows the eastern Inn embankment towards Oberaudorf. Shortly before the town, the route crosses the Inn and continues to Reisach. Its first main rest point is the Kneipp facility near the Auerbach stream, where loungers provide space for a longer break.

The circuit then heads towards the Hocheck valley station. Taking the chairlift to the mountain station is an optional excursion rather than part of the 35-kilometre ride. At the top are another Kneipp pool and wide views over the Inn Valley. Anyone adding this excursion should check the lift’s operating hours, fares and bicycle storage arrangements. Staying on the valley route keeps the schedule simpler.

The return to Brannenburg mainly uses field tracks and low-traffic minor roads. A further Kneipp facility in Brannenburg can be reached by a short detour. The official leaflet covering all six Kneipp & Bike/Hike routes ⬈ summarises the routes, facilities and basic guidance.

Water-treading safely

The tourism authority specifically recommends only one Kneipp water-treading session per tour. The body should be warm beforehand; brisk movement can help if necessary. In cold water, lift each foot completely clear of the water in the traditional stork step. The leaflet suggests about one to three minutes, stopping as soon as the cold becomes unpleasant or painful. Afterwards, brush off the water rather than drying the feet and keep moving until warmth returns.

This guidance does not replace medical advice. People with circulation problems, kidney or bladder conditions, or other health restrictions should ask a doctor before trying the treatment. The launch information for the new route series ⬈ explains its combination of movement, water and balance.

What to pack

A helmet, sufficient drinking water, sun protection, wind or rain layer, first-aid kit, pump, spare tube, lock and charged phone belong in the pannier. Bicycle lights should work even on a daytime ride, as relaxed breaks can easily extend the journey into the evening.
